West Ham show interest in Liverpool target Aissa Mandi

West Ham have joined the race to sign Real Betis defender and well-publicised Liverpool target Aissa Mandi, according to a report from The Mirror.

The 28-year-old, who had apparently been earmarked as a replacement for the Premier League champions, is now seemingly a target for Hammers boss David Moyes as he looks to strengthen his defensive options.

Having reportedly already rejected a £9million bid from Liverpool, Betis are expected to be looking for a figure of around £10.8 million for their Algerian international/

Interest in the defender isn’t reserved to the Premier League, however, as Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce have also expressed their interest in Mandi.

The Hammers left it late to secure their top-flight status as they remained embroiled in a relegation battle for much of 2019/20, something Moyes will be keen to avoid next term.

West Ham conceded 62 goals in the league this season, with only the four clubs below them in the standings conceding more, confirmation of the fragility in Moyes’ squad’s defence.

Mandi is an experienced top-level operator who has represented Real Betis in La Liga on over 100 occasions, as well as making over 50 appearances for his county Algeria. As a touted target for the current Premier League champions, he could be a worthy arrival at the London Stadium if a deal can be done.
