West Ham and Rangers look set to battle to sign Manchester United midfielder Dion McGhee on a free transfer, according to a report from the Manchester Evening News.
The 19-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford officially expires at the end of this month and he’s already announced on social media that he will be leaving the club and that he’s looking forward to his next challenge.
A source close to the player has told the MEN that Rangers, West Ham and Dutch side AZ Alkmaar are the three clubs most interested in signing the midfielder, but there’s also been interest from elsewhere.

In a summer where finances may be very tight for the Hammers, especially if they are relegated, it might be that free transfers are the most likely source of bringing in new players.
After years of splashing the cash on big name signings who’ve not really delivered, bar the odd exception, it might serve West Ham well to change their policy and focus on bringing in young, hungry players.
