Celtic lead the race to sign West Ham’s Veron Parkes

It looks like West Ham’s efforts to keep forward Veron Parkes at the club are going to be in vain at a report from Football Insider claims that Celtic are leading the race to sign the 18-year-old.

It looks like the teenager has decided to reject West Ham’s offer of a professional contract and as such, he’ll leave the club as a free agent at the end of this month.

Parkes is apparently keen to join a club where he thinks he could get regular first-team action and Celtic is seemingly his preferred destination as Football Insider report that the player and his representatives have been impressed by Neil Lennon’s willingness to play youngsters in the first team.

Whilst he could leave as a free agent, West Ham will be entitled to compensation from whichever club signs the teenager.

It’s a shame to see a young player leave West Ham, but if the club can’t give him the game time he wants, then it’s understandable that he wants to make a move.

Celtic could be a very good destination for the teenager to learn and develop too, given that they’ve shown a willingness to promote youth players and if he does go there and succeed, he could then get a bigger move in a few years’ time.

matchday.
