West Ham receive boost in quest to sign Poulsen this summer

The agent of Yussuf Poulsen has provided an update on the forward’s future and his comments could be seen as boost for West Ham.

The Hammers have been linked with signing the RB Leipzig star, who has scored three goals and chipped in with four assists in the Bundesliga this season.

West Ham are believed to be in a three-way battle to sign Poulsen, along with Everton and Newcastle United, with the latter recently touted as the favouites to sign him.

That news has been rubbished by the 25-year-old’s agent, Poul-Erik Petersen, who told TV2 that there was no truth in the reports that there had been contact with the Magpies:

There is no truth in this at all. Yussuf hasn’t asked to leave, and there are no negotiations with other clubs.

We haven’t had any contact with (Newcastle) at all. I can categorically deny this.

I’d like to make it clear that Yussuf loves being in Leipzig, and that’s basically where he sees himself at the moment.

But if the situation continues to be as it is at the moment, it’s logical that he doesn’t want to be a reserve.

While it seems as though Poulsen is happy at Leipzig, it is a boost for West Ham knowing that Newcastle aren’t ahead of them in the race.

The Denmark international could be an excellent addition at the London Stadium, and his limited game time in Germany – only 10 Bundesliga starts in 2019/20 – could mean a move eventually appeals.

The Hammers’ attack badly need an injection of quality, with their ability in the final third lacking this season.

They have only managed just over a goal a game in the Premier League, with no player in double figures for goals and Sebastien Haller leading the way with just seven.
