# West Ham fans split over Joao Mario

Joao Mario had a spell on loan with West Ham United recently and many Hammers fans are split regarding whether the club should have signed him permanently or not.

As stated on the [club’s official website](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2018/january/26-january/west-ham-united-sign-portugal-star-joao-mario-loan), the Portugal international joined the London club on loan in January 2018 from Italian Serie A club Inter Milan.

The attacking midfielder made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers, getting his name on the scoresheet twice and providing one assist ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joao-mario/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/149729)).

As reported on the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-keen-on-second-joao-mario-loan-inter-milan-want-26m-deal-a3850051.html), the Hammers were keen on a second loan spell at the club for Mario but Inter wanted a permanent move, slapping a £26m price tag on the playmaker’s head.

The negotiations never really went further and Mario termed his time with the Hammers as [“amazing”.](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-keen-on-second-joao-mario-loan-inter-milan-want-26m-deal-a3850051.html)

These Hammers fans [on Twitter](https://twitter.com/COYIrons_com/status/1241291951070154758) are split about whether the club should have paid the money to sign Mario, with some saying he was good enough whilst others think the opposite.
