West Ham fans split over Joao Mario

Joao Mario had a spell on loan with West Ham United recently and many Hammers fans are split regarding whether the club should have signed him permanently or not.

As stated on the club’s official website, the Portugal international joined the London club on loan in January 2018 from Italian Serie A club Inter Milan.

The attacking midfielder made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers, getting his name on the scoresheet twice and providing one assist (Transfermarkt).

As reported on the Evening Standard, the Hammers were keen on a second loan spell at the club for Mario but Inter wanted a permanent move, slapping a £26m price tag on the playmaker’s head.

The negotiations never really went further and Mario termed his time with the Hammers as “amazing”.

These Hammers fans on Twitter are split about whether the club should have paid the money to sign Mario, with some saying he was good enough whilst others think the opposite.
