# West Ham interested in signing Man Utd’s Phil Jones

West Ham United and Newcastle United are interested in signing Manchester United defender Phil Jones this summer, according to a report on [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-offer-phil-jones-premier-21693802).

The Englishman has only played eight times in all competitions this season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/phil-jones/leistungsdaten/spieler/117996)) and as stated in[the report](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-offer-phil-jones-premier-21693802), could be handed a chance to rejuvenate his career by the Hammers or the Magpies.

The Red Devils [are understood](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-offer-phil-jones-premier-21693802) to be ready to listen to offers of around £12m for the centre-back, who is keen to get more playing time.

At the moment, he is behind Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Would this be a good signing for the Hammers? There are certainly a few positives. One is experience.

As stated on the [official Premier League website](https://www.premierleague.com/players/3820/Phil-Jones/stats), Jones has played 200 times in the top-flight, helping to keep 60 clean sheets in that period.

Another positive is his defensive ability. Jones has [won 1051](https://www.premierleague.com/players/3820/Phil-Jones/stats) duels in the Premier League, over 400 more than he has lost.

However, his fitness problems could be a major issue.

The centre-back has [consistently missed matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/phil-jones/verletzungen/spieler/117996) due to various different issues in recent seasons and if he can’t keep himself fit, then we feel the Hammers should look to alternative targets.
