# Arsenal interested in signing West Ham’s Diop

Arsenal are interested in signing West Ham United defender Issa Diop this summer, according to a report on [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/arsenal-plot-issa-diop-transfer-21695324).

As stated in [the report](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/arsenal-plot-issa-diop-transfer-21695324), Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his defensive unit for next season and has identified Diop as a potential target.

The Frenchman has been a key member of the West Ham squad ever since he made the switch to London in 2018 from French Ligue 1 side Toulouse ([BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44522330)).

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Diop is a player who gives his all on the pitch, proven by the fact that he has been cautioned nine times in all competitions this term ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/leistungsdaten/spieler/272622)).

He’s one of the most important players in the current Hammers squad, with the team [losing four of the six](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/leistungsdaten/spieler/272622)league encounters that he has not featured in this season.

The Hammers [made it clear](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/westham/west-ham-insist-they-will-not-sell-issa-diop-this-summer-despite-man-utd-links-a4168731.html) last summer that Diop was not for sale and they could be set for another battle to keep hold of him this summer.

He’s currently valued at[£31.5m by transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/leistungsdaten/spieler/272622) but we believe it could take a lot more than that to convince West Ham to offload him because he still has [three years remaining](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/profil/spieler/272622) on his current contract and remains a crucial member of the Hammers squad.
