West Ham United have recently been scouting Galatasaray centre-back Marcao, according to a report on Turkish Football, and we feel this could be troubling news for Fabian Balbuena.
The Brazilian international has been a standout performer for the Super Lig giants this season, helping them boast the best defensive record in the Turkish top-flight, conceding just 20 times in 25 matches.
As stated in the report, the 23-year-old is also being monitored by Italian side Fiorentina and Spanish club Espanyol.
The 6ft centre-back has just over two years remaining on his current deal but the club is understood to be ready to sell him for the right amount of money.
Marcao is only valued at £3.6m by Transfermarkt and the news that the Hammers are scouting him could affect Balbuena.
The Paraguay defender has fallen out of favour under David Moyes and has not appeared in any of the team’s last eight league matches (Transfermarkt).
Many West Ham fans have not been happy with Balbuena’s displays when given a chance in the team, particularly his performance in the FA Cup defeat to West Bromwich Albion.
Therefore, by scouting Marcao, the Hammers may be looking for a replacement for the 28-year-old, whose contract expires next summer.
