Hammers fans excited as Rice makes captaincy admission

Declan Rice has admitted that he wants to be the captain of West Ham United one day and that admission has left many Hammers fans buzzing.

The defensive midfielder has played the full 90 minutes in every Premier League match so far this season (Transfermarkt), showing his importance to the team.

In December 2018, the Englishman signed a new long-term deal with the Hammers, keeping him at the club until 2024.

Rice has already experienced being the skipper of the team, taking over the armband earlier this season during the top-flight clash with Leicester City at the London Stadium.

Speaking to Tony Cottee, as reported by on the club’s official Twitter account, the 21-year-old says that he needs to improve his leadership qualities before he can go on to become the club captain.

He’s been linked with a big-money move away in recent transfer windows but his latest admission has plenty of West Ham fans excited.

They took to Twitter to show their delight at Rice’s ambition, with many believing that he can succeed if he remains at the London Stadium.
