Haller’s response to criticism should please West Ham fans

David Moyes was frustrated with the finishing of his attacking players during the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last Saturday and Sebastien Haller’s response to that is likely to please many fans.

The striker was one of the players on the pitch for the Hammers who had a few chances to open the scoring, along with strike partner Michail Antonio, who also spurned a few good opportunities.

Moyes’ men struck the post in the first period but Alexandre Lacazette’s goal with 12 minutes remaining proved to be the difference at the Emirates Stadium.

Haller responded to his finishing woes by saying:

Everyone was great [on Saturday], everyone made a strong game, but the only thing is I should have scored, Mikey [Antonio] should have scored, and that’s the thing that we missed.

That’s the thing – we missed again, again and again, and a goal was given by VAR, which is really frustrating, but we can say nothing because it is our fault.

Fans should be encouraged by Haller’s comments because he has owned up to his misses.

The Frenchman knows that his finishing should have been better and it could motivate him to train harder this week to ensure the same problem doesn’t occur in the forthcoming matches, especially in the next game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Besides his finishing, the summer-signing produced a decent display in north London, winning eight aerial duels, the most on the pitch (WhoScored).

To solve a problem, you must first acknowledge it and the fact that Haller has held his hands up shows that he knows the weakness and could target it with more attention going forward.
