Arsenal defeat was no surprise when looking at current away record

West Ham are currently enduring a torrid Premier League record away from home so we feel that last weekend’s defeat to Arsenal was no surprise.

As reported on BBC Sport, West Ham have lost their last six Premier League away games, their longest run of losses on the road since a run of eight defeats between August and December 2006.

In their last five away matches prior to the clash with the Gunners, the Hammers had fallen to away defeats against Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester City, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace.

This incredibly poor record away from the London Stadium meant that the team had only a slight glimmer of hope for a positive result, but even that faded away after Alexandre Lacazette netted with 12 minutes remaining.

In all those away defeats, there seems to be one common theme, a failure to score enough goals.

The Hammers drew blanks against Arsenal, Sheffield United and Manchester City, whilst only netting once against Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

David Moyes’ side spurned several good chances at the Emirates Stadium and these results go some way to showing that the team needs to start scoring more away from home to give themselves a chance at winning.

The team also seem to be very leaky away from home.

They conceded a total of 13 goals in the six away defeats, suggesting that Moyes needs to encourage his team to be tighter at the back to end this terrible run.

Next up away from home is Tottenham Hotspur, where the Hammers won 1-0 last year, so Moyes may be hoping for a similar performance and result in north London again.
