ExWHUemployee believes that West Ham United may be tempted to offload Manuel Lanzini this summer, and we believe this could be great news.
The Hammers insider was speaking on The West Ham Way podcast earlier this week and said:
I think we probably have seen the end of him in terms of a top-quality player.
If an offer comes in for him I think we’ll accept it. If it’s within our asking range.
We believe that letting Lanzini go could be a great decision. Why?
Firstly, because his performances have significantly dipped in recent months.
The 27-year-old has zero goals in 20 appearances in all competitions and has only provided three assists all season (Transfermarkt).
The Argentine’s last goal involvement was in early November, where he managed to register an assist during the 3-2 defeat against Newcastle United at the London Stadium in the Premier League.
Furthermore, fellow midfielder Pablo Fornals seems to be hitting some form.
The Spaniard, who operates in a very similar style and position to Lanzini, has scored one and assisted two in his last two top-flight appearances (Transfermarkt), which suggests that he could be the right man for the playmaker role at the club.
Additionally, Lanzini earns £70,000 on a weekly basis at the club (Spotrac), meaning he could be taking valuable space on the wage bill for a player that is not contributing much to the team’s exploits on the pitch.
He’s currently valued at £18m by Transfermarkt and has a contract running until the summer of 2023, but we believe that even if an offer lower than that figure is made, then letting him go could be the best thing to do by the club.
