West Ham United playmaker Pablo Fornals has revealed that manager David Moyes has reverted to using the tactics of former Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini and we feel this should interest the club’s fans.
Pellegrini was relieved of his duties at the London club after a 2-1 home defeat by Leicester City last December.
As reported on BBC Sport, the Hammers had lost nine of their last 12 matches under the former Manchester City boss.
Moyes was appointed as the next manager and began his reign with a convincing win over AFC Bournemouth.
However, his style of play was not working for the majority of the matches, shown by the side’s multiple defeats, and Fornals has now revealed that he has switched back to Pellegrini’s preferred style.
In an interview with Marca, translated by Sports Witness, Fornals said:
In the last games with Pellegrini, I scored my first goal and gave several assists. Now with Moyes, we have changed the system.
We have returned to what we were doing with Manuel and it is giving us results.
We feel this should interest Hammers fans. Why?
Because it goes some way to showing that Pellegrini’s methods could have been successful, but he needed more application and desire from the players.
The Hammers have looked a totally different team in their last two matches, proving to be a difficult test for league-leaders Liverpool and then brushing Southampton aside last weekend.
It also seems to show that Moyes is not afraid to move away from his preferred style in order to get the results the club needs, which could prove to be valuable in the team’s quest for survival.
Utilising the pace of players like Michail Antonio seems to be working a treat for Moyes and it looks like where his predecessor failed, Moyes could just get success.
