West Ham’s decision not to bid for Caicedo could turn out to be a positive

West Ham United have opted not to submit a bid for Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo because of the Italian side’s reluctance to let him go, according to a report on Ecuagol.

The 31-year-old former Manchester City forward has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, finding the back of the net eight times in the process (Transfermarkt).

As reported on Calciomercato earlier this week, Lazio made it clear to the Premier League side that they are not willing to listen to offers to sell the striker in the summer transfer window.

Now, the London club has decided not to make a bid, which we feel could be the correct decision. Why?

Firstly, because it seems that Sebastien Haller could end up being a success at the club.

When partnered up front with Michail Antonio last Saturday against Southampton, the Frenchman did not look as isolated as he had in recent weks and as such, he was involved heavily in the attacking play of the team, winning 14 aerial duels during the 3-1 victory at the London Stadium.

Furthermore, Caicedo is 31 years old and although he has plenty of experience, proven by his 68 appearances for Ecuador, he doesn’t seem to have the turn of pace or deadly finishing that was present earlier in his career.

Fellow top-flight clubs Newcastle United and Everton have also reportedly shown an interest and we think West Ham would be better off letting those sides battle for the former City man and look elsewhere for reinforcements.
