West Ham United striker Sebastien Haller enjoyed a brilliant afternoon against Southampton last Saturday.
The striker found the back of the net and was a constant threat to the Southampton defence as the Hammers recorded a convincing 3-1 victory at the London Stadium.
The summer-signing was a key part of the system that David Moyes used, partnering up with Michail Antonio in attack.
We believe that Haller could be the one to save the side from relegation. How?
He’s absolutely terrific in the air. The Frenchman won 14 aerial duels against the Saints, six more than anyone else on his team (WhoScored).
Furthermore, as stated on the Premier League’s official website, Haller has won a total of 198 aerial battles in the league this season, the most in the top-flight and 61 more than Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk.
This proves that through his aerial prowess, the Hammers could find success. Manager Moyes needs to ensure that the attacker is getting the adequate service because if the ball is put up for him, he’s more than likely to win it.
That’s where the wide-men need to come alive and as seen against the Saints, it seemed to be an obvious area that the Hammers have worked on.
Full-back Aaron Cresswell delivered seven crosses, Michail Antonio made four and Pablo Fornals contributed a further three during the victory (WhoScored) and it paid off.
Moyes needs to encourage his side to do this more often because as seen by his statistics, Haller could head the team to a few more victories this season.
