# West Ham rejected offer from Charlton Athletic for Winston Reid

West Ham have reportedly laughed off interest from Championship side Charlton Athletic after they made a bid to sign defender Winston Reid, according to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-have-laughed-off-london-club-offer-for-colossus-sources/).

The New Zealander has [found himself out](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/leistungsdaten/spieler/37526/plus/0?saison=2019) of the West Ham team and hasn’t appeared for the Hammers[since March 2018](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/leistungsdaten/spieler/37526/plus/0?saison=2017).

It did look like he was about to move to new MLS franchise Nashville SC, but a [loan deal collapsed](https://readwestham.com/2020/02/07/david-moyes-reveals-that-hes-expecting-to-lose-winston-reid-in-a-february-transfer/) just before the end of the window.

However, there was another way out for Reid, with Charlton [attempting](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-have-laughed-off-london-club-offer-for-colossus-sources/) to land him on loan for the rest of the season.

The offer from the Addicks was rejected, with Charlton only willing to contribute [‘less than a seventh’ of his £70,000-a-week contract](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-have-laughed-off-london-club-offer-for-colossus-sources/) at the Hammers.

[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-have-laughed-off-london-club-offer-for-colossus-sources/) believe that the Hammers are still willing to sell their veteran defender, which makes sense considering he is nowhere near the first team, having not made an [appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/leistungsdaten/spieler/37526/plus/0?saison=2019) in the squad all season.

While Reid going to Charlton could’ve allowed him to get some first-team football under his belt, the circumstances [surrounding their offer](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-have-laughed-off-london-club-offer-for-colossus-sources/) means that West Ham wouldn’t have had the benefits of Reid being all-but off the wage bill.

With the Hammers conceding the [fourth-highest amount of goals](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/goals_conceded) in the league, keeping Reid could still benefit them as David Moyes tries to improve matters at the back. However, with the New Zealander coming back from nearly [two years out of action](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/leistungsdaten/spieler/37526/plus/0?saison=2017), this could be a huge risk for the Hammers to take.
