Danny Murphy has spoken about a potential relegation for West Ham, and has revealed that he believes the London Stadium could be half empty for the Hammers if they are relegated to the Championship.
Writing a column for the Daily Mail, Murphy revealed that he believes that the Hammers could be in big trouble if they suffer the drop this season.
The former Liverpool midfielder revealed that he thinks stars such as Felipe Anderson, Declan Rice ans Issa Diop will leave the club, and that fans will stop attending game due to the lack of top players at the Hammers.
West Ham are in a perilous position at the minute, sitting in the bottom three and without a win since New Years Day.
Murphy said in the Mail:
I have never agreed with the theory that being relegated can be a blessing in disguise. Dropping out of the Premier League isn’t good for anyone and in West Ham’s case it would be particularly disastrous. They need to stay up more than any other club in danger of the drop. Can you imagine the vast London Stadium half-empty in the Championship next season with Hammers fans watching a team bereft of Felipe Anderson, Declan Rice or Issa Diop? There would be no reason for the best West Ham players to stick around when top division clubs want them.
Several West Ham fans took to Twitter to react to the former midfielder’s comments, with many disagreeing with Murphy’s point that fans would stop attending if the Hammers dropped down a division.
