# West Ham fans debate whether selling Cheikhou Kouyate was a mistake

West Ham fans have been discussing whether or not selling midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate was a mistake, after a post by [@westham\_gossip](https://twitter.com/westham_gossip/status/1226964510860365824) on Twitter.

The Hammers [sold Kouyate to Crystal Palace](https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/2018/august/kouyate-signs-for-palace/) for £15 million back in 2018, after he made over [147 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cheikhou-kouyate/leistungsdaten/spieler/66934) for the club, scoring [15 goals in the process](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cheikhou-kouyate/leistungsdaten/spieler/66934).

Since then, Kouyate has been a key player for the Eagles, making over [61 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cheikhou-kouyate/leistungsdaten/spieler/66934) for Roy Hodgson’s side.

The midfielder originally joined the Hammers from Anderlecht in 2014 for a [fee of around £6.5 million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cheikhou-kouyate/leistungsdaten/spieler/66934) and has also been capped by his country of[57 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cheikhou-kouyate/leistungsdaten/spieler/66934).

Several West Ham fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions about whether or not Kouyate should have been sold back in 2018.

Some fans believe that while it was not an error to sell him, West Ham never really replaced Kouyate, which was the true mistake.
