West Ham reportedly subject of takeover interest from Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Arabian-backed consortium, that has been heavily linked with a takeover at Newcastle United, may have diverted their attentions to West Ham, according to Football Insider.

Sources have told Football Insider that the consortium is considering buying West Ham instead, with no deal yet agreed over a potential £340million takeover of Newcastle.

Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund is reportedly behind the takeover interest, with the group locked in talks with Mike Ashley.

With owners David Gold and David Sullivan facing a lot of criticism at West Ham at the moment, this could be an opportunity for the pair to sell the club.

For fans who aren’t really keen on the current Gold and Sullivan regime, then this news will go down very well. The pair have come under a lot of criticism as of late, with some fans questioning the spending done under the pair’s ownership of the club.

The Saudi Arabian consortium could bring a lot of money into the club, with huge sums being talked about in the potential buyout of Newcastle United.

Should this takeover go through, West Ham would fall into foreign ownership, like the Abu Dhabi-backed City Football Group that owns Manchester City.

In our opinion, fans would surely take this as long as it saw an end to the GSB ownership of the club, especially if promises of big spending were kept, with some labeling the ones made by Gold and Sullivan as false.
