West Ham were ready to spend €20 million to bring Payet back to club

West Ham were reportedly ready to spend €20 million to bring back midfielder Dimtiri Payet back to the club, according to a report from L’Equipe.

The reports in France suggest that the Hammers were ready to reunite with the Frenchman, and that they were ready to spend big money to lure him away from Marseille.

West Ham had apparently looked to bring the Frenchman back, but a lack of interest from the player himself led to the Hammers not even bothering to put in a bid.

Payet has denied that he would have any interest in returning to West Ham, especially after leaving the Hammers to return to a club he says he has a “lot of affection for”.

The Hammers may have looked at a deal for Payet, but, in our opinion, this was simply a waste of time.

Payet’s departure from the club was less then amicable, with the player falling out with Slaven Bilic and forcing a move back to his beloved Marseille.

Therefore, looking at a move for the player, when West Ham had issues in other positions such as up front, makes a move for Payet look like a complete waste of resources.

Yes, he is a good player, with Payet’s record at West Ham, 10 goals and 18 assists in 48 games, showing what he can do in England.

But, with Payet revealing that he would have no interest in a move, it all looks like a huge waste for West Ham to even have considered making a move for the Frenchman.
