# Brighton’s Duffy to miss West Ham clash

Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Shane Duffy has been ruled out of Saturday’s Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The news was [confirmed on the club’s official website](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/1593425/preview-duffy-to-miss-west-ham-trip) as Dan Burn and Jose Izquierdo also won’t play any part in the encounter. Graham Potter said in his press conference:

> Shane had a collision injury on his shin and he just needed to clear that up, we’re hopeful he can be available next weekend against Watford.

The Hammers are in [17th place in the table with 23 points](https://www.premierleague.com/tables), whilst the Seagulls are only two points above them in 15th, making this match crucial in the battle for survival.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

The 28-year-old centre-back is an important player to the team, proven by the fact that Brighton have only lost five times when he has started in the league this season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/shane-duffy/leistungsdaten/spieler/119269)).

Duffy played the [entire 90 minutes](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49302579) in the reverse fixture earlier this season which ended 1-1 and has [won 50 aerial battles](https://www.premierleague.com/players/3601/Shane-Duffy/stats?co=1&se=274) so far this season, losing only 21, so this comes as a boost for the Hammers.

Every little helps at the moment for David Moyes’ goal-shy side, who have [only found the net 27 times in the league](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table), which, coincidentally, is the exact same amount as Brighton.

Without Duffy’s presence and experience at the back, the Hammers should feel more confident of getting in behind the visitors on Saturday.
