Brighton’s Duffy to miss West Ham clash

Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Shane Duffy has been ruled out of Saturday’s Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The news was confirmed on the club’s official website as Dan Burn and Jose Izquierdo also won’t play any part in the encounter. Graham Potter said in his press conference:

Shane had a collision injury on his shin and he just needed to clear that up, we’re hopeful he can be available next weekend against Watford.

The Hammers are in 17th place in the table with 23 points, whilst the Seagulls are only two points above them in 15th, making this match crucial in the battle for survival.

The 28-year-old centre-back is an important player to the team, proven by the fact that Brighton have only lost five times when he has started in the league this season (Transfermarkt).

Duffy played the entire 90 minutes in the reverse fixture earlier this season which ended 1-1 and has won 50 aerial battles so far this season, losing only 21, so this comes as a boost for the Hammers.

Every little helps at the moment for David Moyes’ goal-shy side, who have only found the net 27 times in the league, which, coincidentally, is the exact same amount as Brighton.

Without Duffy’s presence and experience at the back, the Hammers should feel more confident of getting in behind the visitors on Saturday.
