# West Ham submit offer for Leicester defender Ughelumba

West Ham United have submitted an offer for highly-rated Leicester City full-back Calvin Ughelumba, according to a report on [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-west-ham-submit-bid-for-leicester-city-rising-star/).

The youngster mainly plays as a left-back but can also operate as a centre-back.

Ughelumba has previously been labelled as a[“wonderkid”](https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=27489) and is said to be very highly regarded by everyone at Leicester, despite not yet making his debut for the senior team.

The [report confirms](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-west-ham-submit-bid-for-leicester-city-rising-star/) that the Hammers are hoping to entice the defender to London with a promise of a faster route to first-team football.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

The 20-year-old has been a regular for Leicester’s Under-23 side this season, making 12 appearances in the Premier League 2 Division One, whilst also playing five times in the EFL Trophy ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/calvin-ughelumba/leistungsdaten/spieler/461883)).

We believe that Ughelumba would be a good addition to the West Ham squad but are not convinced that he would make an immediate impact on the team.

Why? Because he has to compete with experienced players like Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell for a starting role.

Even if Moyes does sign him and make him a starter, would he really be helpful in the relegation situation that the team finds itself in? Rather, Moyes would need to turn to his experienced heads more in this situation.

However, for the future, he could be useful but we don’t see why he would swap Leicester for West Ham, only to find himself playing reserve team football again.
