West Ham United have informed Bristol City that they are ready to match Burnley’s £9m offer for midfielder Josh Brownhill, according to a report on Football Insider.
As stated on BBC Sport, the Championship side is reluctant to see Brownhill leave but with a release clause becoming active in the summer, they would rather take the fee for him in this transfer window.
The club has agreed on a deal with Burnley but West Ham have also made their intention to pay £9m clear to them.
As stated in the initial report, Burnley have been working throughout the month to agree on a deal for the 24-year-old midfielder.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
The Hammers only signed midfielder Tomas Sucek on Wednesday on a loan deal until the end of the season.
That makes it slightly surprising that the Hammers are going for another midfielder, especially because of other areas of the squad that need improving, such as the attack. Moyes himself admitted that the hammers need more goals.
Brownhill boasts a decent record in the Championship, scoring 16 goals in 148 appearances from midfield (Transfermarkt).
However, it could be too little too late from the Hammers as Brownhill is set to have his Burnley medical. We feel the Hammers should have targeted the midfielder much earlier if they really wanted to sign him, but nothing can be ruled out just yet.
