New York Red Bulls turn down West Ham’s offer for Aaron Long

New York Red Bulls have rejected West Ham United’s loan offer for defender Aaron Long, according to a report on Sky Sports.

The report confirms that the Hammers made a £382,000 offer to loan Long for the rest of the season, with a clause included to allow them to sign him permanently for £3.4m in the summer.

The Hammers were close to signing the defender last summer but the move did not materialise due to work permit problems.

Now, the London club have shown their interest again as they look to strengthen their defensive unit before the transfer window slams shut in a few days.

Long won the 2018 MLS Defender of the Year award as he helped lead the Red Bulls to a record-setting 71 points.

As quoted on Sky Sports, Long has made it clear that it is his dream to play in the Premier League and unless the Hammers don’t submit a more attractive bid, it’ll still be a dream to him.

David Moyes’ side are currently in an intense relegation battle and some fans are desperate for a new arrival this month.

Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop are two defenders who look decent, but Fabian Balbuena is unconvincing and Winston Reid has too many fitness issues, so bringing in a new defender makes total sense.
