# Marseille boss Villas-Boas responds to Payet transfer rumour

[French publication L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Transferts-danger-pour-dimitri-payet-om-convoite-par-west-ham/1101607) recently reported that West Ham United are interested in bringing Dimitri Payet back to the club.

However, [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/11915491/dimitri-payet-west-ham-not-interested-in-re-signing-marseille-midfielder) dismissed the report and stated that the Hammers have no intention of bringing the Frenchman back to the London Stadium.

Marseille boss Andre Villas-Boas was quizzed about the rumour. As quoted in [FootMercato](https://www.footmercato.net/ligue-1/transferts/om-andre-villas-boas-declare-dimitri-payet-intransferable-mais_272412), he said:

> Dim is not transferable. He knows it, we have a special relationship, he also knows the importance he has for the team.

> After that, it’s not only the position of the club, that of the player also counts. I read what came out in L’Equipe and in England today. I don’t know if it’s true, we have to be ready if it happens.

> There are a lot of parameters to take into account: the offer for the club, for the player. I don’t think it’s going to happen. We will wait.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

The manager’s response is slightly odd because initially, he totally rules out a move but the longer he speaks, he seems to open the door slightly towards the possibility of it happening.

Payet has six goals and three assists in Ligue 1 this season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dimitri-payet/leistungsdaten/spieler/37647)), which isn’t really a spectacular return considering that fact that he has made 16 appearances.

We believe that bringing Payet back would almost be a step backwards for West Ham because he is almost turning 33, meaning his best years could be behind him.
