French publication L’Equipe recently reported that West Ham United are interested in bringing Dimitri Payet back to the club.
However, Sky Sports dismissed the report and stated that the Hammers have no intention of bringing the Frenchman back to the London Stadium.
Marseille boss Andre Villas-Boas was quizzed about the rumour. As quoted in FootMercato, he said:
Dim is not transferable. He knows it, we have a special relationship, he also knows the importance he has for the team.
After that, it’s not only the position of the club, that of the player also counts. I read what came out in L’Equipe and in England today. I don’t know if it’s true, we have to be ready if it happens.
There are a lot of parameters to take into account: the offer for the club, for the player. I don’t think it’s going to happen. We will wait.

The manager’s response is slightly odd because initially, he totally rules out a move but the longer he speaks, he seems to open the door slightly towards the possibility of it happening.
Payet has six goals and three assists in Ligue 1 this season (Transfermarkt), which isn’t really a spectacular return considering that fact that he has made 16 appearances.
We believe that bringing Payet back would almost be a step backwards for West Ham because he is almost turning 33, meaning his best years could be behind him.
