West Ham agree loan deal for Gedson Fernandes

West Ham United have completed the loan signing of Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes, according to Sky Sports.

The 21-year-old will join the Hammers on an 18-month loan with no option to buy him at the end of the spell.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea but the Hammers have come out on top in the race for his signature.

The Portuguese has only made seven appearances in the league for Benfica so far this season.

Fernandes will add depth to David Moyes’ midfield options and should be competing for a starting position for the remainder of the season.

Fernandes is still young and the Hammers will be hoping to hand him more playing time than he has got at Benfica so far.

The youngster is widely regarded as a future star of football and we can’t wait to see what he delivers on the big stage in the Premier League.
