# Randolph having second West Ham medical

Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph is having his second West Ham United medical today, according to a report on [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/update-on-west-ham-bid-to-sign-randolph-amid-development/).

The shot-stopper [failed his initial medical](https://readwestham.com/2020/01/08/randolph-fails-west-ham-medical-ahead-of-4m-switch/) earlier this week ahead of his proposed £4m switch, which has complicated the transfer.

According to the report, there are concerns regarding a thigh problem that the goalkeeper has, which could require surgery.

In 2017, the Ireland international [left the Hammers](https://www.fotmob.com/news/ynlm79sv96x81n2vpxpfr2hts-randolph-joins-middlesbrough-in-%C2%A35m-move) to join Championship side Middlesbrough for £5m, but he is now closing in on a return, with the report stating that the results of his second medical are expected to be revealed today.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Many West Ham fans are [not happy](https://readwestham.com/2020/01/06/west-ham-fans-not-happy-with-clubs-decision-to-re-sign-randolph/) that the club want to resign Randolph whilst Boro fans [are furious](https://readwestham.com/2020/01/06/middlesbrough-fans-furious-over-4m-randolph-fee/) that they’re only letting him go for as little as £4m.

Lukasz Fabianski is the firm number one at the club but there have been heavy [concerns](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/dec/05/west-ham-sell-roberto-sign-new-goalkeeper-husillos-leave) regarding backup goalkeeper Roberto, who has made [plenty of errors](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7722675/West-Hams-Roberto-joins-gaffe-prone-keepers-Premier-League-hall-infamy.html) this season.

Randolph has previous [top-flight experience](https://www.premierleague.com/players/2216/Darren-Randolph/stats) and has made 29 appearances in the Premier League, meaning that he provides a more reliable backup option for the Hammers.
