Bent urges Spurs to sign Koulibaly ahead of West Ham

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Darren Bent has addressed the speculation linking West Ham United with a move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

According to the Express, West Ham want to sign the 28-year-old, who has a hefty £100million release clause at the San Paolo.

Speaking on talkSPORT Drive, Bent has urged Tottenham to pursue Koulibaly, suggesting North London is the more attractive destination for him:

They talk about West Ham going in for Koulibaly, surely they can get in there before. They are in the Champions League, they are doing better in the Premier League, so surely they can go and get Koulibaly and get him over West Ham.

Bent has a point; if West Ham are showing the ambition to sign, arguably, world-class players like Koulibaly, Spurs can do the same.

Spurs have a state-of-the-art stadium and training facilities, as well as Champions League football so it’s hard to argue that it’s not the more attractive venture.

Realistically speaking though, we believe it’s hard to see either club forking out such a fee for a centre-back – it’d surpass the world record amount Manchester United paid for a central defender in Harry Maguire last summer.

Regardless of how realistic it is, that money could be spent much wiser by West Ham, on positions that urgently need bolstering.
