West Ham could reignite Clyne interest after Fredericks injury

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has become a forgotten man since his move from Southampton, but could West Ham United put him back on the map?

The Hammers were dealt another cruel injury blow during the 2-0 FA Cup Third Round win at Gillingham on Sunday night.

Ryan Fredericks limped off the field with a feared hamstring problem, leaving Pablo Zabaleta to play out the rest of the game.

According to club insider ExWHUEmployee, Fredericks’ injury is likely to see West Ham try and sign a new right-back and a loan move for Clyne could be on the cards.

Zabaleta may have scored the opener but, now 34, won’t have the legs to hold down such a demanding position until Fredericks returns.

There had been talk of West Ham looking to strengthen the full-back areas before the January transfer window anyway, so reignited interest in Clyne would make sense.

Hopefully, Fredericks isn’t out for a prolonged period because even though there does remain to be question marks over his ability, he’s West Ham’s best option.

Norwich City star Max Aarons is the man of many Hammers fans lips though, but Clyne could be the more attainable option this month.
