West Ham planning on making two January signings

West Ham United are expected to be active in the January transfer window, as a promising squad isn’t fully living up to expectations so far this season.

According to Football Insider, Manuel Pellegrini wants to make two signings in the new year to bolster his current options, with a defender and striker the two priority positions to strengthen.

The report states director of football Mario Husillos will spearhead the search for worthy acquisitions and is already lining up a list of potential targets.

It is also said that the Hammers wants players who can make an immediate impact at the London Stadium, rather than those who would need time to adjust and adapt.

West Ham have undergone a bit of a centre-forward exodus during Pellegrini’s stint as manager, which has left the competition for Sebastien Haller’s place scarce.

Neither full-back position has an established occupant either, whilst Issa Diop could be in need of a long-term central partner, despite Angelo Ogbonna’s impressive form.

After accumulating just 13 points from their opening 10 Premier League games, West Ham sit in 10th and fans are pleading for urgent improvement.

Ahead of a busy winter period, victory over Newcastle United this weekend would be a great way to return to winning ways.
