Jack Wilshere hasn’t managed to cement his place in the West Ham United team since joining on a free transfer from Arsenal in 2018.
In fact, he’s only featured in 14 Premier League games for the Hammers due to injuries and inconsistent form, which has led to questions about his future at the club.
However, according to Claret & Hugh, West Ham have no intention to pay-off Wilshere’s current contract if his troubles continue.
The club are also said to be keen to honour his £100,000-a-week contract, which expires at the end of next season.
READ WEST HAM’S VERDICT
Wilshere hasn’t lived up to the hype from when he first arrived at the London Stadium, but there’s still plenty of time for him to make a positive impact.
Declan Rice’s meteoric uprise hasn’t helped his lack of game time, but he needs to ensure he’s taking his opportunities when they come and so far, I don’t think he has.
As it stands, you wouldn’t feel like West Ham are concerned about losing him on a free transfer but aged just 27, he still has plenty left to offer if he stays fit.
It’s been a disappointing campaign for him so far, but talk of an early departure seems very far-fetched at this moment in time.
