Roberto’s first Premier League start at Everton received a mixed ovation from West Ham United supporters, but former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent believes he put in a good performance.
West Ham fell to a 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park, which made it back-to-back dismal Premier League losses, and slipped to 10th in the table but the Sky pundit found room to praise the deputy goalkeeper.
Speaking to Football Insider, cited by Forever West Ham, Bent explained that even though he should’ve done better for Everton’s opener, Roberto’s heroics softened the blow for Manuel Pellegrini and West Ham:
To be fair to Roberto, he made one unbelievably world-class save from Davies during the game and I think he played really really well. I think that first goal, he should have kept out, but it’s a tough one as when you’re trying to replace Fabianski who has been brilliant since he went to West Ham, it’s tough. But he did show signs yesterday that he can make that spectacular save.

The jury is still firmly out for Roberto following his summer arrival and no matter how well he plays, ultimately the sooner Lukasz Fabianski returns from injury the better.
He should’ve kept the Toffees’ opener out but you can’t disagree with Bent when he applauds the saves he did make to prevent what could’ve been an even more humiliating scoreline – the praise was deserved.
You’d expect him to maintain his place in between the sticks at the London Stadium this weekend, so hopefully, the home crowd can get behind him against a dangerous Sheffield United outfit.
