Hammers fans in shock over Pellegrini’s comments after Everton loss
Plenty of West Ham United fans are questioning Manuel Pellegrini after he claimed Everton’s poor start to the Premier League season inspired their 2-0 win at Goodison Park on Saturday.
It was an afternoon to forget for the Hammers on Merseyside but Pellegrini’s comments to BT Sport, cited by HITC, after full-time have got people talking:
‘Maybe, when you are in Everton’s situation you have more energy. It happened last season with our team here in the same stadium. We came to play against Everton after four defeats and beat them 3-1.’
There were many deflated fans who weren’t having any of the Chilean boss’ reasoning for his side’s toothless defeat though, presenting their displeasure on social media…
Twitter: @kumbdotcom Would have been nice for @WestHam to give more than 50% (@vyperz591)
Twitter: @kumbdotcom That’s a silly comment!!!! I thought he was better than that! (@carlbeisser)
Twitter: @kumbdotcom So it’s the opposition’s fault for trying to win?
How much do we pay this clown? (@DamianADavis)
Twitter: @kumbdotcom What situation he is on about? They are 2 points behind us now. (@GrzegorzGrzego3)
Twitter: @kumbdotcom Stuff like this is why I am not on the Pellegrini train and never really have been. (@gizzi_m)
Twitter: @kumbdotcom So we need to be in the bottom 3 before we give maximum effort, top stuff!! (@hudsomar)
READ WEST HAM’S VERDICT
Pellegrini’s comments were so confusing, it felt like he was just as confused about the visitors’ performance as the fans were.
However, isn’t it the manager’s job to motivate their players? He’s right about one thing, and that’s that Everton were the more motivated side and therefore the blame must be placed on his shoulders.
These West Ham fans are rightly frustrated with what he had to say, but everyone will be desperate to bounce back against Sheffield United this weekend.
