West Ham United defender Winston Reid is set to return to action after almost 19 months out of action, as reported on the Evening Standard.
The centre-back participated in the club’s pre-season tour in China during the summer but has not played a competitive match since March 2018.
Reid is set to play for the club’s Under-23 side on Monday against Stoke City.
Pellegrini said:
We must pray that he will not have any other injuries. He has had a long time without playing and deserves to try to return to his career.
Is this good news for the Hammers?
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Absolutely. The return of Reid will strengthen Pellegrini’s defensive department but it is crucial that he is eased back into the first team.
Pellegrini has not been content with how the Hammers have defended in recent weeks and has called on his side to improve defensively – Reid could certainly play his part in helping them to do that.
The 31-year-old is still training with the U23 team and will be hoping to come through Monday’s test unscathed.
