West Ham look to sell Hugill for cut-price £5m – is it good business?

West Ham United are looking to offload Jordan Hugill for a cut-price £5million in January, despite his goalscoring form on loan at QPR this season.

According to Football Insider, West Ham regret allowing David Moyes to splash £9million on Hugill after Manuel Pellegrini decided against keeping him at the club for a second straight summer.

The 27-year-old arrived at the London Stadium from Preston North End less than two years ago but has made just three first-team appearances for the club since.

He was ever-present for Middlesbrough during a loan stint last season but only netted seven goals in all competitions. However, he’s been in fine form for QPR this term, netting six times in 11 games so far.

Read West Ham’s verdict

Manuel Pellegrini has spent two pre-seasons with Hugill and decided during both of them that a loan move would benefit him most, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he doesn’t see a future for him.

If Hugill can continue his goalscoring form throughout the rest of the season, there’s no reason why West Ham can’t use him in one way of the other.

He’s not young, but if he can finish this season with 20+ goals to his name, the club are bound to make their money back on him if not build on it.

Selling him for almost half the price they paid would be poor business by West Ham. It’d be fairly understandable if it was a player who looked out of place in the division below, but Hugill looks nothing of the sort right now.
