Hammers fans react as Reid suffers another injury setback

Winston Reid has suffered yet another setback in his road to recovery, and some West Ham United fans are starting to believe it’s time for him to leave the club.

The Kiwi centre-back hasn’t featured for West Ham since March 2018, when he suffered a knee injury that would see him miss the whole of the 2018-19 season.

He was scheduled to play a part of the Under-21s’ game against Cheltenham Town on Tuesday but has been set back a few weeks due to back issues.

Plenty of Hammers fans have been on social media to express their opinions on what he should do next…

Read West Ham’s verdict

Since Reid last played for West Ham, Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena have arrived at the club and Angelo Ogbonna has increased in importance.

The 31-year-old probably won’t have a place in the squad this season, but his current contract runs out in 2023 so he won’t feel pressured to leave.

I think it’d be in the best interests of everyone if he did depart from a playing role though, and the door shouldn’t be closed on him returning in an off-field position further down the line.
