Interesting clause could extend Fabianski’s deal – but would it be right?

Lukasz Fabianski has been a stand-out player for West Ham United for a sustained period now, and he could be set to stay around for a while yet.

According to reports, West Ham have inserted a clause into Fabianski’s contract which means it could be automatically extended by a year.

The Poland international’s current deal expires in the summer of 2021, but the clause could see his stay at the London Stadium stretch beyond 2022.

You could very easily argue that Fabianski has been West Ham’s best player by a country mile since he joined for £7million from Swansea City last summer.

He’ll be 36 years old by the time his current deal is set to expire though, so would it really be the right thing to do to keep him on for longer than that?

Sure, if he’s still performing at a high level then I don’t see why not, but it could be better for the club to look to transition by then.

Especially if they’re still aspiring to cement their European status, which they should be.

Hammers fans should just enjoy him whilst he’s still at the club, but he’ll be greatly missed during his stint on the sidelines through injury.
