# West Ham could offer Cullen new deal – can he replace Sanchez?

Josh Cullen’s current West Ham United contract expires next summer, but his continued form at Charlton Athletic could be rewarded very soon.

The 23-year-old widely impressed on loan at the Valley last season in their League One promotion campaign, and now he’s playing a big role as Charlton impress in the Championship.

According to [reports](https://www.claretandhugh.info/hammers-rising-midfielders-on-international-duty/), Manuel Pellegrini could be looking to tie Cullen down to a £50,000-a-week deal to replace Carlos Sanchez as Declan Rice’s back-up option next term.

Sanchez’s rather lacklustre time at the London Stadium isn’t likely to extend past this season, and Cullen could be the perfect man to take his place in the first-team squad.

### Read West Ham’s verdict

Aged 23 now, Cullen will be eager to cement his place at the club rather than being sent out on any more loan deals and 2020 seems like the perfect time for him to make his breakthrough.

It just hasn’t worked out for Sanchez at West Ham and considering he’s 10 years older than Cullen, it would definitely be worth taking a punt on the loanee star.

Rice should be first-choice for years to come, but Cullen would provide him with stern competition for a place in Pellegrini’s team if given the chance.
