Man United send scouts to watch Tonali – and it’s good news for West Ham

Those West Ham United fans fearing over Declan Rice’s future at the club may be able to rest a little easier, with Manchester United reportedly eyeing a move for an alternative midfielder.

According to the Daily Star, Man United sent scouts to watch Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali face Serie A champions Juventus in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat.

The 19-year-old has drawn comparisons with Italian great Andrea Pirlo after playing a pivotal role in Brescia’s promotion last season.

Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Roma and Valencia are also said to be vying for Tonali’s signature, with his value already north of £45million.

If United are scouting other midfielders there’s a chance they don’t believe Rice is attainable for when they want him – presumably in the summer.

It’s good news for West Ham, but that doesn’t mean the interest in the 20-year-old will go away; Chelsea are also heavily linked with bringing him back to Stamford Bridge.

I don’t think supporters have anything to worry about though, Rice is quite evidently enjoying his football at the London Stadium and seems committed to the club.

Anything can happen in the transfer window though and if West Ham don’t achieve their goals, he could be tempted to make the step up.
