# Lawrenson backs Bournemouth to beat West Ham – but is there something to agree on?

Mark Lawrenson has had his say on West Ham United’s trip to AFC Bournemouth this weekend, and it’s not good news for the travelling fans.

The Hammers travel to the Vitality Stadium on the back of a humiliating 4-0 thumping at the hands of Oxford United in midweek, while the Cherries lost to Burton Albion.

Speaking in his [weekly BBC predictions](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49839210), Lawrenson has tipped Bournemouth to come out on top due to home advantage:

> The Hammers have not won this fixture since the 2015-16 season, so how they do at Bournemouth will be a good indication of their progress. But Eddie Howe’s side are playing well and have got home advantage, so I am backing them to come out on top, just. 2-1.

### Read West Ham’s verdict

Read into the score prediction however you want, but the thing I’ve picked up from this is the first sentence.

Following the huge result against Manchester United and the monumental low at Oxford in the Carabao Cup, this game falls at the perfect time to see where Manuel Pellegrini’s side actually is.

Sitting in fifth, the Hammers look like genuine contenders for European football but they now have to keep on impressing in the Premier League and live up to the hype from their own supporters.

A win against a Bournemouth side that has been equally as impressive so far this term would make a huge statement.
