# Pellegrini questions his players’ commitment – is West Ham’s squad depth good enough?

Manuel Pellegrini has questioned the commitment of his players after Wednesday night’s 4-0 humbling at the hands of Oxford United.

The League One side dumped West Ham United out of the Carabao Cup in humiliating fashion, as Pellegrini’s second-string players failed to shine at the Kassam Stadium.

Speaking after full-time, cited by [KUMB.com](https://www.kumb.com/story.php?id=133932), an angry Pellegrini explained how his fringe players didn’t take their chance to impress because they didn’t give it their all:

> During the season in England, if you want to play in every competition then you need to use your whole squad. I think that we must demand better performances from \[the fringe players\] when they have the chance to demonstrate why they are not playing.

> Mentally they weren’t prepared to give 100 per cent as you need to in this kind of game. The team that is in League One gave it their all. In the second half, they were better and took their chances.

### Read West Ham’s verdict

The Hammers manager is rightly disappointed with his players after such an embarrassing performance.

His first-choice players are in great form in the Premier League, but you need sufficient squad depth if you are to achieve all your goals at the highest level and it doesn’t look like he has that available to him.

With the Carabao Cup now out of the picture, it’s hard to see where West Ham’s fringe players are going to find game time, but Wednesday’s defeat could’ve been the final straw for more than one of them.
