Jamie Carragher has tipped Manchester United to solve their midfield problems by signing Declan Rice from West Ham United but admits his £90million is too steep.
Man United have lost Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera in the last 12 months without replacing either of them, which leaves Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s options fairly scarce.
Speaking on Sky Sports though, cited by The Sport Review, Carragher believes Rice could be the answer for not just the Red Devils, but even teams in the Champions League:
If I was a top-four team, and I was in Manchester United’s position and looking for a midfielder, I’d have Declan Rice as that holding midfield player. Obviously the price, I wouldn’t pay £90m for him, of course, I wouldn’t. But if you’re talking £50m, maybe more, I think he could do a job for a Champions League team.

You’ve got to agree with what Carragher is saying. Yes, Rice would improve many a team in Europe’s primary competition but £90m is very steep for such a talent so early in his career.
Many a West Ham fan will argue that he’s priceless to the club, but ultimately every player can be replaced and Rice doesn’t exactly boast a unique style.
It’ll be a big boost for the Hammers if they can continue to keep hold of Rice though. He has the potential to spend a long time in the team at the London Stadium, but that doesn’t mean heavyweight interest will go away.
