# West Ham target Gomez’s future to be discussed – what does he offer?

A new name has supposedly emerged in West Ham United’s hunt for defensive reinforcements, with Sevilla centre-back Sergio Gomez being linked with a move to the London Stadium.

[Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-interest-pushed-pl-move-players-real-desire-january-development-possible/) have picked up on a report in Spanish outlet [El Desmaque](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-watford-interest-la-liga-defender-revealed-turned-cl/)a few weeks ago which revealed West Ham are interested in signing Gomez.

A [new report](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-watford-interest-la-liga-defender-revealed-turned-cl/) from the same outlet explains how the 27-year-old has become Julen Lopetegui’s fourth-choice option at Sevilla and his future will be discussed in January.

They add that the defender desired to move to the Premier League this summer, with West Ham cropping up as one of his possible destinations – but what would he offer the Hammers?

### Read West Ham’s verdict

Gomez joined Sevilla last summer from Celta Vigo, his first senior club where he made his debut in 2014.

The Spaniard isn’t capped for the international side, but carries plenty of experience at the highest level in La Liga, facing the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann.

He can also slot in at right-back, should Ryan Fredericks and Pablo Zabaleta require cover, and his European pedigree could make him a valuable first-team star.

The reports do contradict themselves though, so I wouldn’t read much into this rumour for now.
