Yarmolenko blasts Dortmund for manner of exit – but how crucial is he?

Andriy Yarmolenko has publicly blasted his former club Borussia Dortmund for how he was treated ahead of his departure for West Ham United.

The Ukraine international joined West Ham on a four-year deal last summer after just a year in the Bundesliga, but his debut season in England was marred by injury.

Judging by a recent interview with Sport.ua, cited by Tribal Football, though, Yarmolenko seems well settled in London and most certainly prefers it to Signal Iduna Park:

I’m not someone to be offended. But the way they parted with me, I did not like. I believe that Borussia is a great club, and it should treat with great respect the players who play on the team. I did not like a lot of things in Dortmund.

His latest comments beg the question of whether the same issues will arise should he leave West Ham in the near future…

Now fully fit, the 30-year-old has played a big part in the Hammers’ upturn in form, scoring in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Norwich City.

After the goal, Yarmolenko went over to celebrate with the medical staff which provided further proof that he wasn’t the type of player to cause trouble over an transfer.

I don’t personally think he’s crucial to West Ham, with younger, exciting talent such as Pablo Fornals, Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson available, but he’s a great character to have around the club.

While he continues to perform and West Ham continue to get results, it’s likely he’ll be a regular figure on the wing this season if he can stay unscaved.
