# Chicharito on verge of Sevilla switch – but what are West Ham losing?

Javier Hernandez is on the verge of completing a deadline day move to Sevilla after West Ham United agreed a deal with the La Liga club on Sunday.

According to [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12691/11800286/javier-hernandez-west-ham-agree-deal-with-sevilla-for-forward), West Ham will receive £8million for Hernandez, who has just 10 months remaining on his current contract.

In that sense, this is a good deal for the Londoners with Albian Ajeti and Michail Antonio still around to provide quality back-up for Sebastien Haller.

It’s very likely Chicharito would have left for a cut-price fee in January, or for nothing next summer, if he stayed beyond the European transfer deadline.

With that being said, Manuel Pellegrini will now have funds and a squad space available so he can possibly boost his ever-improving squad in January.

The 31-year-old is the 14th player to depart the London Stadium either permanently or on loan this summer, so what exactly are West Ham losing?

### read west ham’s verdict

Hernandez has featured 63 times in all competitions since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2017, scoring 17 goals – it’s his vast experience at the highest level West Ham will miss though.

With 159 goals in 409 career appearances at the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, Hernandez is a natural goalscorer and has a notorious reputation for making an impact off the bench.

He’s claimed trophies such as two Premier Leagues, a Club World Cup, Community Shield and plenty of individual honours during a career built on scoring key goals at key moments.

Chicharito has never been a 20-goal striker, but he provides quality experience and a poaching skill unmatched by anyone in the Hammers squad.

It’s certainly a risk letting the all-time Mexico top goalscorer leave, but Pellegrini has arguably signed a replacement in Ajeti, who is showing early signs of promise.
