Hammers fans praise Antonio as he provides Newport selection hint

Michail Antonio has partaken in some interesting social media activity ahead of West Ham United’s Carabao Cup second-round clash against Newport County on Tuesday night.

The 29-year-old forward shared a training photo with his Twitter followers on Monday evening captioned: “Ready to go tomorrow.”

Does this mean he’s going to start at Rodney Park? Regardless of his squad status, plenty of fans have hailed Antonio in his comments and clearly want him to feature:

Twitter: @Michailantonio 40 years of hurt ! Hope you find the net ? COYI ! (@banterhammer)

Twitter: @Michailantonio Has @robsnodgrass7 been doing your leg workout? Tree trunks! (@JohnnyFellows)

READ WEST HAM’S VERDICT

Antonio has been labelled as the difference-maker by many in the weekend’s 3-1 win at Watford after both of Sebastien Haller’s goals came once he had replaced Andriy Yarmolenko on 55 minutes.

The right-back-turned-forward is somewhat of an unsung hero in the West Ham squad and has provided plenty of goals for a number of years.

Considering the impact he made at Vicarage Road on Saturday, I’d put money on Antonio starting either upfront or on the wing against Newport.

His quality provides a risk-free opportunity to rest one of Manuel Pellegrini’s more prominent stars in what should still be a strong side.
