Diangana undergoes West Brom medical – is it the right move?

It seems like West Bromwich Albion have won the Championship chase to sign Grady Diangana on a season-long loan, but is the Hawthorns really the best destination for West Ham United’s promising winger?

According to Football Insider, Diangana underwent a medical this morning ahead of joining former Hammers boss Slaven Bilic’s squad, despite reports emerging yesterday that Derby County were in fact winning the race to sign him.

The rapid winger featured 17 times under Manuel Pellegrini in the Premier League last season but the Argentine manager has sanctioned the loan deal in hope Diangana will gain valuable first-team experience.

Diangana is a talent worth looking after and, ultimately, could have probably done a job for West Ham this season. Game time wouldn’t have been regular though, but will it be that much better as West Brom?

The Baggies kicked off their Championship campaign in impressive fashion with a win at Nottingham Forest last weekend, and both scorers were the allocated wingers – Matt Phillips and Kyle Edwards.

Good players in the form of Oliver Burke and Jonathan Leko are also options for Bilic on the flanks, so it’s unlikely Diangana will just walk into the team. He could’ve done that if he moved to Derby.

Manager Phillip Cocu has been pursuing a right-winger in the late stages of the summer transfer window and the 21-year-old could’ve been that man, especially because Florian Jozefzoon wasn’t convincing against Huddersfield Town on Monday.

Both West Brom and Derby are expected to have good campaigns in their bids for Premier League promotion, and hopefully, Diangana can make an immediate impact in the Championship.
